Software Architect/Server farmer. Aretic. Hegemon of Mars (deposed). Athazagoraphobic.

I'm not good; I'm not nice; I'm just right.

Thou shalt not violate causality within my historic light cone.

He/Him.

My bio has been accruing and sloughing content for years; it changes slowly over time. What do the bits mean and where do they come from?

Software Architect/Server farmer

Job title and avocation. I've been running my own server farm for decades, and I design and build web application software with a focus on the back end.

Aretic

Think 'lunatic', but Martian.

Hegemon of Mars (deposed)

My main online username since I was 14 has been martian, and a fictional backstory has developed over the years. Among other things, that I am the democratically elected dictator of an empire controlling everything in the solar system outward of Earth's orbit. Venus has its own inner-system thing, and Earth is a nature preserve. I was overthrown and dumped on Earth because I wasn't despotic enough for the people who got me elected.

Athazagoraphobic

Fear of being forgotten.

I'm not good; I'm not nice; I'm just right.

From the song Last Midnight, from Into the Woods. It is not okay to let people just have their little incorrectnesses, to leave them to their mistakes and misconceptions. That is how you get to the point of a society that doesn't respect experts, doesn't believe in facts, doesn't believe in science, and elects racist fascist demagogues. I don't have a lot of tolerance for slippery-slope arguments, but I've spent four decades watching this one happen.

Thou shalt not violate causality within my historic light cone.

In Stross's Singularity Sky, a singularity event resulted in the instantiation of the Eschaton, which transported the majority of the human population to various planets and left behind a simple commandment: “I am the Eschaton. I am not your God. I am descended from you, and exist in your future. Thou shalt not violate causality within my historic light cone. Or else.”

He/Him

It's become the polite thing, to include ones preferred pronouns. Adding these is what led to the most recent rewriting of the bio, as most social media sites have strict character limits and I had to drop or alter several items.
